Your daughter is eligible to apply for the Latinas in ProgressTM (“LIP”) Education Series sponsored by the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas (“HWNT”), Fort Worth Chapter. This information packet includes details about the LIP Education Series to which we are inviting your daughter to apply. HWNT is committed to educating Latinas and encouraging participants of the Education Series to continue their education after graduating high school.
The LIP Education Series consists of six sessions taught one Saturday a month during the school year, from September to April. The sessions are held at local partner post-secondary institutions: the University of Texas at Arlington, Tarrant County College, University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, Texas Wesleyan University, and Tarleton State University. Each session will cover a range of topics such as Writing Skills, Latinas in Power and Civism, Assertiveness, and Life Skills. The first session entails a full day of workshops and presentations to help students and their parents prepare for college. At least one parent of the participant must be in attendance at the first session in September. To be eligible to apply for HWNT scholarships, participants MUST ATTEND ALL SIX SESSIONS, complete all assignments, and complete 12 community service hours. There is no cost to participate in the LIP Education Series, but strong applicants should be genuinely interested in succeeding and advancing their education. Light meals are always provided, and transportation is provided to some sites outside of the Fort Worth area. If your daughter can commit to attending all six sessions and meeting the additional requirements in the Student Agreement, we encourage her to apply. Please see the enclosed Student Agreement for additional details or visit www.lipfw.org to learn more about the LIP Education Series. Do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
